Court rejects Demjanjuk defense
motions
MUNICH -- Retired Ohio autoworker John Demjanuk's
attorney is accusing a Munich court of acting on the assumption that
his client is guilty after judges rejected a raft of defense motions.
Ulrich Busch said Tuesday that the court's decision to reject the
motions was a serious blow to the defense but he vowed to press ahead
with his efforts.
Demjanjuk is standing trial on 28,060 counts of accessory to murder for
allegedly having been a guard at the Nazis' Sobibor death camp. He
denies the charges.
The judges rejected a motion to recuse themselves from the trial on
allegations they hadn't properly considered whether Sobibor was part of
an earlier trial in Israel. They also refused defense requests for more
files and to hear more witnesses.
