Dear Subscribers:
A perfect example of hate mongering on the part of the Montreal
Gazette is the Question of the Week concocted by Cecelia McGuire (514)987-
2489 in the Sunday, August 1, 1993 issue with the results published on
August 8, 1993. Readers simply dial the INFO-LINE:841-8600, vote yes/no and
have an opportunity to make comments.
The question was "Should Demjanjuk be allowed to live in Canada?"
In the following 268 word article, Ms. McGuire spreads the usual
disinformation about "recently unearthed documents" [whereas the OSI had
them in their possession before the 1981 denaturalization trial],
"reasonable doubt" [whereas there is no doubt at all as to Mr. Demjanjuk's
innocence of the charges brought against him], "other documents prove he
was a volunteer German SS-trained guard who took part in the extermination
of Jews" [whereas there is overwhelming concensus that the Trawniki card is
a fake], "lost his U.S. citizenship because he covered up his Nazi past" [
whereas John Demjanjuk never had a Nazi past].
The final paragraph states: "But the head of the Canadian branch of
the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies said Demjanjuk
would not be allowed into Canada. Sol Littman said there was strong proof
that Demjanjuk served in a Nazi unit whose mission was to kill Jews."
After this buildup, the reader is invited to vote on the question.
It was a perfect opportunity for every Ukrainophobe in Montreal to vent
their hatred. If this is not professional hate mongering by Ms. McGuire
than I don't know what is!
Tomorrow, I expect to post my observations about the subjects the
Montreal Gazette and the news media, in general, refuse to cover.
